Getting set up

Open Start workout, select squats, and allow access to your camera.

Stand facing the camera with your entire body visible, including your head and feet. Once you’re in position, hold still for a moment while Calisthus checks your alignment.

Once you’re ready, start squatting.

If another person walks into the frame, the counter pauses until you’re the only person being tracked.

How squat counting works

Calisthus looks for a complete squat rather than simply counting every movement.

Once you’re aligned, a rep starts from standing, follows you down into the squat, and finishes when you return to standing. The counter uses the on-screen depth target to determine whether the movement is deep enough to count.

So if you only dip slightly and come back up, it won’t be added to your total.

When you’re finished, tap Stop to save the reps you’ve completed. You can also raise both open hands to stop without having to reach for the screen.

FAQ

Does Calisthus upload my camera video?

No. Your camera is used locally to track your movement, and the video isn’t uploaded while you exercise.

Do I need an account?

No. You can start counting squats immediately without signing in.

Your workout sets remain in the browser until you choose to log in with Google. An account is only needed for features such as Matchmaking and saving your workouts to your account.

How does the squat counter count reps?

Start standing with your full body visible. After a short alignment check, Calisthus looks for a complete squat: descend to the required depth and return to standing.

Small or incomplete movements aren’t counted as full reps.

How should I position myself?

Face the camera and make sure your whole body is visible, from your head down to your feet. Try to stay in roughly the same position throughout your set so the counter can track your movement consistently.

Can I compete against someone with squats?

Not currently. Squat workouts are solo.

Calisthus Matchmaking is a separate feature for 60-second push-up 1v1s, with each player using their own device.
